States Push to Ban Credit Card Companies from Tracking Gun Sales

The conflict between gun owners and credit card companies is heating up as so-called red states move to enact laws that will block efforts by financial institutions to track Americans’ firearms purchases.
West Virginia introduced on Jan 12. legislation that would ban credit card companies from collecting or disclosing data on their customers’ firearms purchases.
The new House bill, titled The Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, states that “a financial institution may not disclose financial records … in a manner that singles out or discriminates against any person based on activity protected by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.” The bill also allows for lawsuits against card companies by residents whose Second Amendment rights are violated, and it authorizes the state treasurer “to disqualify financial institutions from certain state contracts if violations have occurred.”…}
