Gov. Ron DeSantis braved a couple of protesters in the Granite State Friday night.
Addressing the New Hampshire GOP at the Amos Tuck Dinner, the Governor dealt with some women storming the stage chanting “Jews against DeSantis.”
They were removed, with the Governor looking only briefly concerned before offering a quip to return proceedings to normalcy.
“You’ve got to have a little spice in the speech. You’ve got to have a little fun. Why do you want to pay the ticket for that to get in? But different strokes for different folks,” DeSantis said, before returning to his stump speech.
The group If Not Now took responsibility for “confronting Ron DeSantis at a GOP fundraiser in New Hampshire (Friday) evening. We’re making clear that DeSantis is an anti-semite whose actions and policies both support Israeli apartheid and put Jews in danger.”
The organization specifically cited the Governor’s upcoming trip to Israel as a matter of grievance.
“He’s making this trip as he gears up for his campaign for President, and as Israel’s far-right government continues its efforts to entrench apartheid rule over all parts of Israel and the West Bank,” the group tweeted. “In his last trip to the occupied West Bank, DeSantis signed agreements with orgs in illegal settlements. He even signed legislation ostensibly fighting antisemitism – in reality, it enables the right to frame Palestinians’ human rights as ‘discriminatory.’”
DeSantis’ in-state actions also earned their condemnation, including allegations that he “refuses to condemn the Nazis who demonstrate across his state and even show up to his fundraisers … allies himself with antisemitic Christian nationalists … (and) smears his political opponents as ‘Soros-funded.’”
Additionally, his ties to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee rankle the organization, which contends both “support occupation and apartheid at the expense of Jewish safety.”
