Padilla Wins 2 Races on Same Ballot to Retain U.S. Senate Seat

U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) will retain his seat for the remainder of his current term and was elected to serve another six-year term, according to preliminary Nov. 8 midterm election results.
Padilla ran against Republican opponent Mark Meuser in two races on the same ballot. The first was to complete his partial term until January 2023, after California Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed him to the Senate to fill the vacancy left by Kamala Harris when she was elected vice president.
For the full term, which ends January 2029, Padilla is currently leading with 59 percent of the vote over Meuser’s 41 percent. Padilla has received 3,208,323 votes, compared to Meuser’s 2,230,091 with 100 percent of precincts reporting as of 11:50 a.m. Nov. 9, according to unofficial results posted by California Secretary of State Shirley Weber, who has until Dec. 16 to certify official results….}
