Outlier? Poll finds Marco Rubio atop GOP 2028 wish list, Ron DeSantis with double-digit support

A new national survey from Atlas Intel is the first to show Secretary of State Marco Rubio ahead of Vice President JD Vance in the race for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination.

It also has some good news for Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has the strongest backing he’s had in any polling in some time.

Rubio commands 45% support in the survey, 15 points ahead of Vance. DeSantis is alone in third place with 11% support, with no other name polled getting more than 1% support.

The polling was conducted May 4-7, days before President Donald Trump surveyed attendees at a Rose Garden event about whether they liked Rubio or Vance better, before calling them a “dream team” and a “perfect ticket.”

Momentum continues for Rubio, meanwhile.

The Kalshi prediction market sees him as the most likely potential 2028 candidate to win the presidency outright, though Vance is marginally ahead of Rubio (34% to 31%) in the market for the party’s nomination.

DeSantis is in single digits in both, making him an intriguing long shot for those willing to buy low.
