Michigan State Legislators Reject Tax Benefits to Ford’s New Battery Plant

MARSHALL, Mich.—The Michigan state House Freedom Caucus is objecting to the use of taxpayer dollars to fund a new Ford electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in the state.
On March 9, the state appropriated $630 million for the project that partners Ford with a Chinese EV battery maker with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
State Rep. Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers), who chairs the caucus, said at a news conference on March 11 that the appropriation didn’t follow the Michigan Constitution, which requires a two-thirds majority for funding private purposes.
