McConnell, Schumer Condemn Detention of US Journalist in Russia

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have come together to condemn Russia’s detention of a U.S. journalist.
“We strongly condemn the wrongful detention of U.S. citizen and Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, and demand the immediate release of this internationally known and respected independent journalist,” the two wrote in a joint statement released on April 7.
They join President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in calling for the release of Gershkovich.
“Mr. Gershkovich was accredited by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work as a journalist in Russia. Since his arrest, Russian authorities have failed to present any credible evidence to justify their fabricated charges,” the statement from Schumer and McConnell reads….}
