House Passes Resolution Condemning Russia for Downing US Drone

The House unanimously passed a resolution on April 17 condemning Russia for downing a U.S. drone over the Black Sea.
The resolution was introduced on March 21 by Rep. Brandon Williams (R-N.Y.). It “condemns the reckless actions of the Russian military; and recognizes that Russian attempts to recover the drone are a threat to the national security of the United States.”
U.S. European Command announced on March 14 that a Russian Su-27 aircraft hit an unmanned MQ-9 aircraft, which collects intelligence, over the Black Sea. In response, the United States had to bring the down the drone in international waters.
“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace when it was intercepted and hit by a Russian aircraft, resulting in a crash and complete loss of the MQ-9,” said U.S. Air Force Gen. James Hecker, the commander of U.S. Air Forces Europe and Air Forces Africa, in a statement. “In fact, this unsafe and unprofessional act by the Russians nearly caused both aircraft to crash.”…}
