House Hearing: Wray Admits to FBI Plan for Spying On ‘Radical Traditional Catholics’

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) challenged FBI Director Christopher Wray this week about a memo from the agency’s Richmond, Virginia field office stating that surveillance of “radical traditional Catholic” communities presented an opportunity to “mitigate extremist threat” potentials. Wray conceded that the FBI’s Richmond office had suggested deploying resources to infiltrate and spy on Catholic parishes, but insisted the memo did not “result in any investigative action.”
