Gov. Ron DeSantis has reappointed two members of one of the most prominent environmental regulatory agencies in North Florida.
DeSantis announced this month that he’s given the nod for John “Cole” Oliver and Janet Price to return to the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD). The pair are returning to the Board of Directors. The District focuses on the regulatory issues facing drinking water and other environmental issues surrounding the St. Johns River which courses through or has impact in 18 counties stretching from parts of the Treasure Coast along much of the East Coast and some inland counties north to the Georgia state line.
Oliver returns to the SJRWMD coming from the Space Coast and is currently the Treasurer of the board. Oliver is a lawyer and partner in the Lowndes Law Firm. Oliver has long been an active member of the Brevard County community.
Oliver serves on the Cypress Bank and Trust Board of Directors. He’s also a past member of the Brevard County Charter Review Commission as well as serving on the Canaveral Port Charter Review Commission.
Oliver has deep roots in Florida and obtained his law degree from the University of Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Washington & Lee University and earned a master’s degree in finance from Louisiana State University.
Price from Fernandina Beach is technically retired but is leading an active life. She has a career that’s steeped in environmental involvement. She was a Senior Manager of Environmental Affairs for Rayonier Inc.
Price was also the Chair of the Aquatic Biology Committee as a member of the Forestry and Environmental Technical Advisory Group of the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement.
Price obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Alabama and a master’s degree in aquatic biology from the University of Alabama.
The Florida Senate still needs to confirm the reappointments.
The St. Johns River Water Management District Board of Directors has nine members that are appointed by the Governor and serve on the panel without pay in four-year terms.
