Elections have consequences: Ron DeSantis rips animal abuse on LA’s Skid Row, blames voters for bad choices

Gov. Ron DeSantis is condemning homeless people in California abusing animals, framing it as a consequence of electing people to office who don’t enforce the law.

“You see the homeless, you see the drug use, and you see some of the worst animal abuse of any place in the United States of America. And the question is, are these people going to keep voting for the same stuff? Because if they keep electing the same people, they’re going to get very similar results going forward.,” DeSantis said, responding to a complaint filed with various federal agencies from the Advancing Law for Animals organization.

The group alleges animals are being confined in inhumane ways, abused, and bred for dog fights, and seeks a multiagency investigation.

DeSantis’ comments, made after he signed bills to increase penalties for animal abuse and to assert consumer rights when buying pets, come as celebrity Spencer Pratt runs for Mayor, an effort backed by many conservatives. The Governor did not address the impending elections in the City of Angels.

The Governor has made a point of teeing off on the Golden State, including at least one incident that is ironic in this context, as he attacked a California law requiring more humane treatment for pregnant pigs (something Florida has in its constitution) for pork producers that want to sell meat in the state.

While at a Never Back Down bus tour stop in Atlantic, Iowa, he said his presidential administration would not “let California regulate how farmers in Iowa conduct their business on things like, you know, these pork producers have to follow California law to do this stuff.”

Beyond his pig comments, he has denounced “disgraceful” riots against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in LA, taken aim at gender identity protections for minors and at “people defecating on the sidewalk” in San Francisco, and has sent a flight full of undocumented immigrants from Texas to California protesting the state’s “sanctuary jurisdictions.”
