Donald Trump camp fires back after Ron DeSantis says ‘of course’ Trump lost in 2020

The Donald Trump campaign isn’t letting Ron DeSantis’ assertion that the result of the 2020 Presidential Election was legitimate after all go unchallenged.

The former President’s Make America Great Again super PAC claims the Florida Governor and 2024 Primary rival “groveled” to NBC News by saying Joe Biden is the rightful President.

“Ron DeSantis will say whatever he can to keep his campaign afloat, even though he was one of America’s leading election critics until his campaign needed a ‘reset.’ Ron will do whatever it takes to hoodwink a few more donors into giving to his failed campaign,” claimed Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc.

In the interview that aired Monday, DeSantis said Trump “didn’t have control over his own government” and “helped facilitate that whole set of circumstances” that led to the loss to Biden. In a counterargument, MAGA Inc. produced a series of vintage DeSantis quotes where he supported the former President’s false claim that the election was not legitimate.

“I would just urge everyone to donate to the President’s legal relief. I know you’ve talked about a number of suits and I think some of those have promise,” DeSantis said during a November 2020 episode of the “Ingraham Angle” on Fox News.

On that same episode, he urged viewers to go further.

“I would also tell them, especially if you’re in those states that have Republican Legislatures like Pennsylvania and Michigan and all these places, call your state Representatives and your state Senators. Under Article II of the Constitution, presidential electors are done by Legislatures and the schemes they create in the framework. If there’s departure from that and they’re not following the law, if they’re ignoring law, then they can provide remedies as well, so I would exhaust every option to make sure we have a fair count.”

In that interview, the Governor also wouldn’t call Biden the “rightful winner.”

“Fox called Arizona very early. Now, the President is closing in. There’s over 300,000 ballots outstanding, he’s down only 46,000, and yet that is called for Biden. Meanwhile, North Carolina, the President is up 76,000 votes and there is at most 150,000 votes outstanding and probably not even close to that much, and yet that’s not called for the President? So, there’s been a double standard and there seems to be there’s been more of a rush to call states for Biden and to create a narrative that Biden is the rightful winner,” DeSantis said, in the same “Ingraham Angle” episode.

DeSantis also would not immediately call Biden the President-elect.

“It’s not for me to do, but here’s what I would say: Obviously we did our thing in Florida, the Electoral College voted. What’s going to happen is going to happen. But I can tell you I think a lot of the frustration for folks who supported the President is, we were four years with people not accepting him,” the Governor said in December 2020.
