McCarthy Suffers 6th Straight Loss in Speaker Bid; House Adjourns Until Jan. 5

WASHINGTON—After a sixth straight failure to name a new House speaker, Members adjourned until 8 p.m. on Jan. 4, sparking intense talk that some sort of deal is in the offing to resolve the deadlock.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) received the same 201 votes during the sixth vote that he got on the fourth and fifth earlier in the day, just as Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) again got the votes of all the chamber’s 212 Democrats.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) received 20 votes for the third time as well. Donalds told Fox News shortly after the sixth vote that he thinks McCarthy may yet find the path to victory….}
