‘Running through the tape’: Ron DeSantis addresses future plans, says he has plenty of time to run for President

Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t widely perceived as a front-runner in the 2028 Republican presidential race, but he’s willing to bide his time.

During remarks Monday at the Milken Institute in California, the term-limited Governor suggested that he is taking a longer view than just the cycle about to begin, as he continues to “run through the tape.”

“I am in my mid-40s, ’28, you know, maybe beyond that. I think that there’s a lot of runway,” DeSantis told interviewer Charles Gasparino.

DeSantis also noted that he will “be very active all the way through January of 2027,” and after that, he will “look to see what we want to do.”

“I’ve got a lot of people offering a lot of different things, saying, you should do this, you should do that. And I appreciate it,” he said.

One of those people offering different things is not the President, based on comments about a potential role in the Donald Trump administration during an on-site CNBC interview.

“I gotta run through the tape with this job I have now. It’s a great job. We’ve done a lot. I’ve got more that I wanna do. No one’s ever asked me to do anything, and I’ve never asked to do anything. So I think a lot of it is just, you know, I’m one of the more well-known Republicans in the country, so I think people like to throw it in. Reality is, people are gonna run with my name more than they’ll run with somebody who’s maybe never held elected office in terms of, ‘oh, are they in the mix?’ So some of that is just stuff that gets passed around,” DeSantis said.
