Mason DeSantis cheers for two NFL teams now, understands betting lines

During a campaign stop in Seacoast, New Hampshire, Ron DeSantis suggested that his son Mason, aged 5, has more than one rooting interest in the NFL and also has an understanding of point spreads.

DeSantis told the rally crowd on Tuesday that Mason “has been going back and forth with Gov. Chris Sununu about this Patriots-Dolphins game and he’s very excited about the Dolphins

“And so on the way over here,” DeSantis said. “he grabs my wife’s phone, he knows how to do Siri on the iPhone. He asked Siri, who’s supposed to win the Dolphins versus the Patriots? And Siri said the dolphins are favored by 9.5 points to which Mason responded: ‘Governor Sununu is going to be really sad when he hears that the Patriots may lose.’”

While this is the first anecdote DeSantis has had about Mason being a Dolphins fan, the Governor has told stories of how his son is also an avid fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, DeSantis has told variations of the same story about he and his son attending the home playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers last year, an epic second-half comeback for Jacksonville.

During an interview with Clay Travis of OutkickRon DeSantis claimed he and his son stayed for the whole game.

“That was a great comeback,” DeSantis said. “So he had a good time.”

That is a different story than he told recently on the campaign trail, however, when he noted that he left the game when the home team was down 27-7 at halftime, with his son not having a good time.

“I took him to the Jags-Chargers game. It was a great game,” the Governor said in Iowa in May. “He fell asleep at halftime and the Jags were getting killed.”

At that point, the Governor and his son left, just before the historic comeback.

“So, since he fell asleep, you know, we went home. But by the time we got home, we saw the comeback and he was so excited when he saw that,” DeSantis said.
