Man who threatened life of Ron DeSantis, other Republicans faces prison time

An Oklahoma man who made threats on the lives of Ron DeSantis and other Republicans faces prison time.

Enid’s Tyler Jay Marshall “pleaded guilty to the interstate transmission of threatening communications against various government officials,” according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Oklahoma.

“According to court records, on or about May 15, 2023, the FBI learned that Marshall had been using Twitter to post threats to shoot or bomb several government officials and their families, including Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, DeSantis, and United States Senator Ted Cruz,” the release notes.

Marshall has been locked up since May and he faces up to five years in prison and a $300,000 fine.

The threat to DeSantis, as noted by the New York Times, came in response to a May 15 post on what is now the X social media platform, in which the Governor said he had “seen examples of schools requiring students and professors to commit to DEI and CRT theories before they are admitted or hired at a university – a de facto political loyalty oath. DEI can no longer be used as a woke litmus test as a condition of entrance into higher education in Florida.”

Marshall then posted in response, “I’ll see you dead in your home.”
