Ron DeSantis laughs off media ‘narratives’ that his 2024 campaign is crumbling

Rumors of the death of Ron DeSantis’ 2024 campaign have been exaggerated, and are in fact “media” fabrications.

That’s the case the Florida Governor made during a Fox News interview airing Sunday morning. He told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo his problem wasn’t being down more than 30 points in polls, but from “narratives” promulgated by a hostile press.

“Maria, these are narratives. The media does not want me to be the nominee. I think that’s very, very clear. Why? Because they know I’ll beat Joe Biden,” DeSantis said, chuckling to start off his answer to show that he was unperturbed.

DeSantis contended that the media objects to him taking on the “drug cartels,” “stopping the invasion at the border” and curbing the “administrative state.”

“We’ll do all the things that they don’t want to see done. And so they’re going to continue doing this type of narrative,” he said.

The Governor said he has “incredible support in the early states,” noting First Lady Casey DeSantis’ relaunching of the “Mamas for DeSantis” movement in Iowa last week before citing his fundraising, which includes $20 million raised since his campaign launch in addition to more than $80 million transferred from his state-level PAC.

“And, oh, by the way, we just announced last week better fundraising than any non-incumbent has ever had. If you look at what was reported, it was about $150 million, and that hasn’t even been deployed yet. So we’ve got a long way to go,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to being able to participate in the debates, but this is not something that, you know, I ever expected to just snap fingers and all of a sudden, you know, you win seven months before anyone happens. You’ve got to earn it, and you got to work. And it requires a lot of toil and tears and sweat, and we’re going to do that.”

This is the second Fox News interview in recent days where the Governor was confronted with his struggling poll numbers.

During a Thursday night interview o”Fox News Tonight,” host Will Cain confronted the 2024 presidential candidate with polling that has seen DeSantis “between 10 and 20%,” “numbers that have stayed there for two months.”

There, he also blamed the media for his struggles.

“Well, I think if you look at the people like the corporate media, who are they going after, who do they not want to be the nominee? They’re going after me. Who’s the President of Mexico (Andrés López Obrador) attacking because he knows we’ll be strong on the border and hold him accountable in the cartels? He’s going after me,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said he will participate in upcoming Primary debates. It looks like he will need them.

The Race to the White House polling average shows Donald Trump up, 53% to 21%, over DeSantis.
